Renowned economist Dr. Bernardo Villegas and political analyst Professor Richard Heydarian recently shared their insights on the country’s 2020 economic and political outlook in a talk organized by DivinaLaw.

Dr. Villegas continues to be bullish on the economy, citing the country’s young population, robust domestic tourism sector, OFW remittances, public-private partnerships, and expected growth in the BPO-IT, health and education, and manufacturing sectors as main drivers of the economy for the coming years.

Prof. Heydarian spoke on the political climate under the current administration and anticipated the fast-tracking of infrastructure spending and the implementation of much-needed social programs and changes in the utilities and public services sector. Heydarian also sees a continued trend towards populist leadership.

Both experts agree that the Philippines is on track to become among the largest economies in the world, in accordance to the projections of international bank HSBC.
