The Developers of Renewable Energy for AdvanceMent, Inc. (DREAM), the umbrella organization of all renewable energy associations in the Philippines, and Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) successfully held the private-public roundtable discussions last June 26, 2024 on the upcoming Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) to be conducted by the Department of Energy (DOE). Together with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, DOE and Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson Monalisa Dimalanta, DREAM and GWEC discussed the proposals of the private sector to enhance the auction rules to encourage more participants. At least 240 people attended the event at Crowne Plaza Hotel with many investors expected to join the auction and help the Philippines address its need for more capacity.

DivinaLaw Senior Partner and Co-Head of the Energy Practice Atty. Jay Layug moderated the roundtable as President of DREAM together with the Presidents of all the RE associations, Biomass Renewable Energy Alliance, National Geothermal Association of the Philippines, Confederation of Solar Developers of the Philippines, Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance, Philippine Hydro Association, Belle Pirie Ocean and Wind Energy Developers Association of the Philippines. The DOE plans to conduct two GEAP auctions for geothermal, hydro, wind, solar and biomass in 2024 and an auction for offshore wind in 2025. At the second GEAP conducted in June 2023, the DOE awarded 3.5GW of new solar ground mounted, solar rooftop and wind projects out of the 11GW target of the Philippine government.
