DivinaLaw Senior Partner Atty. Jay Layug spoke at First Gen’s Energy Forum entitled “Powering Ahead: Building a Decarbonized Future Through Energy Solutions” last May 9 at the First Industrial Philippine Industrial Park in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. Recognized by the energy industry as a leading Thought Leader, Atty. Jay delivered a presentation on the “Energy Landscape in the Philippines: How Does Energy Efficiency Transform the Future” and emphasized the need to implement the mandate of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act of 2019, which provides for numerous fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, labeling, energy and fuel economy performance programs for various energy stakeholders.

“As the Philippine government pushes for more renewable energy capacities, we need to consider energy efficiency and conservation as top priority and the first fuel. We have to push the public and private sector to integrate energy management system measures in their daily operations. We also have to encourage consumers to use energy efficient lighting systems and inverter type technologies”, Atty. Jay explained. Atty. Jay asked the participants to “use the stairs, car pool, unplug mobile charging at night and consider solar rooftop systems” to help the government in managing the current electricity supply challenges.

First Gen is one of the leading power generation companies in the Philippines with a portfolio consisting of 100% renewable and clean energy including geothermal, natural gas, hydro, wind and solar plants.
